Here’s an insider’s look at the best of the best from this year’s event. Check out these 10 high-end rides that stood out from the rest.
Bradley Wiggin’s Custom Pinarello Bolide HR
Price: N/A
While you won’t be able to purchase this bike, it’s still worth drooling over. Pinarello custom-built this steed for Bradley Wiggins earlier this year for his attempt at the hour record, which he broke with a distance of 54.525 km.
The notable modifications include:
- A brakeless design
- Single gearing
- Custom, one-piece titanium aerobar made with 3D printing
- Extremely narrow front fork design
- Custom, one-of-a-kind paint scheme
De Rosa SK Pininfarina
Price: N/A
Details of this new project from De Rosa are not yet available, but I was told that you can expect the price of this bike to be upwards of $10,000 once it hits the market. Undoubtedly the best looking bike at the show, De Rosa partnered with the exotic car brand Pininfarina to create a true masterpiece.
As with all bikes made by De Rosa, this bike is created, built and painted entirely in its factory in Milanino, Italy. A few of the standout features include:
- A frame designed using inner molding, which utilizes 3D printing to provide unparalleled stiffness and low weight
- A carbon frame woven entirely by hand
- Pininfarina decals on special Vision Metron 81 wheels
Bianchi L’Eroica
Price: $4,449
Designed to be ridden at L’Eroica, a throwback Italian bike race held on the white gravel roads of Tuscany, this vintage-inspired Bianchi is quite the refreshing break from the all-carbon everything.
Similar to what pro cyclists might have ridden in the ‘70s or early ‘80s, this beautiful vintage-style bike features:
- Lugged, Columbus-steel tubing
- Chrome stays
- Center-pull brakes
- 32-hole Ambrosio Montreal tubular rims
- Original Bianchi Celeste paint
- Campagnolo Silver Vintage 10-speed derailleurs
- Brooks Team Pro Classic saddle
Divo ST
Price: $5,780 (frame and fork only)
Italians like their tradition, especially when it comes to bikes. Divo ST, the new kid on the block, is making plenty of splash alongside the old Italian brands like De Rosa and Colnago due to their aggressive aesthetics and custom options.
The features that make this model stand out from others include:
- Custom-frame sizing
- Paint quality and customization on par with the best available
- Hand-built tube construction
- Clean lines that hide tube joints extremely well
Pegoretti Responsorium
Price: $4,950 (frame and fork only)
Creator Dario Pegoretti considers each of his hand-painted frames to be a work of art. Though the aesthetics certainly stand out on all of his models, Dario’s frames are well known for their comfort, durability and individual uniqueness.
Features of the Responsorium include:
- Columbus XCR steel frame
- Relaxed tubing diameters for a more comfortable ride over long distances
- Long-butted tube sections and thin tube walls for longevity
Custom paint options are available, but will increase the price.
Lightweight Urgestalt 2.0
Price: $10,000+
Details of this second generation frame from German wheel maker Lightweight weren’t available, but you can expect this model to be more than its $10K predecessor.
As you should expect from a company that designs aero wheels that top $4K, the price of this model is due to its supreme stiffness, aerodynamics and low weight. A few of the claims released by the company include:
- A 37% increase in stiffness from the first generation Urgestalt
- A 41% increase in handling and responsiveness
- Size-specific tubing for each frame size and color, utilizing CFD modeling
Chris Froome’s TDF Pinarello Dogma
Price: N/A
It’s safe to say that the Dogma from Pinarello has a proven racing pedigree. This custom model Chris Froome rode at this year’s Tour de France was on display, featuring yellow accents (to match his yellow jersey) and Froome’s customary rhinoceros artwork near the head tube.
Froome, who grew up in Kenya, is known for a head-down style of riding that’s similar to the attacking mannerisms of the African beast.
Sarto Velox
Price: $6,000 (frame and fork)
This 2016 triathlon bike from Sarto is definitely striking in person. While the price is steep, the rep at the show informed me that custom paint and sizing are available to all individuals at no additional cost.
Keeping in line with other high-end models releasing in 2016, Sarto has begun using 3D software to design and build its bikes. Stiffness ratios and the laminate process used for tube welding make this model fast and aesthetically pleasing.
Look 795 Aerolight Pro Team
Price: $8,000+
Not yet available for purchase, the 795 Aerolight will have a price point above $8K when released in early 2016.
Look, a French company, spent over 10 years of research and development on this frame. The result is one of the most aerodynamic road bikes available, featuring integrated brakes, an integrated aero stem, and the ZED2 one-piece carbon crankset. Also of note is the bike’s weight, which comes in just above the UCI-required weight minimum of 6.5 kg.
Wilier Romato Superleggera
Price: $6,350
Dubbed as the past future, this stunning steel bike from Willier is considered a tribute to the bikes that made the company famous.
The copper color inspired by the ‘40s certainly stood out on display. The bike is finished with chrome detailing and is built with solid craftsmanship. Pricing for the complete bike varies according to componentry. This model was featured with:
