Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2020 Collection Milan Fashion Week

The Dolce & Gabbana fall 2020 collection unveiled at Milan Fashion Week looked divine. Literally. The collection displayed a heavy influence of religious paintings that were apparently inspired by the mosaic pictures displayed abundantly in Montreale’s Cathedral, an impressive church from a town in situated in the province of Palermo, Sicily and the opulent Byzantine mosaics in Venice.

One might think that Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce took advantage of all the media attention focused on the Church since the resignation of Pope Benedict the XVI and opted for religious elements to push their collection to the center of attention, but in fact that designer duo planned their collection months ahead of the shocking news and the result of their hard work paid off, not because of the theme but because of the impressive artistic details, luxurious fabrics and sensual shapes that took over the runway in Milan.

Opulence was the first word to pop into our mind as the first models featured in the Dolce & Gabbana fall 2020 collection show made their way down the catwalk wearing heavily embellished, mosaic inspired catholic element printed dresses, blouses and skirts that signaled without a doubt the theme that stood as inspiration for this particular collection. However, the sudden switch to monochrome designs that still maintained hints concerning the theme through the lines introduced as well as some of the colors from which we have to mention cardinal red as it was the hottest, got the interest pf those first disappointed by the bold approach to fashion of the designs that opened the show.

Tweed was the fabric that veered from the opulent Byzantine details towards the 60s fashion scene through the use of classic designs that included stylish capes, all-ladylike separates, peplum details and vintage shorts. Although the Dolce & Gabbana fall 2020 collection brought to our attention an array of amazing coat designs that looked like something Grace Kelly would have worn, our favorites were the oh-so-stunning dresses featuring lace details or elegant embellishments. Their elegance and seductiveness was balanced by the subtle introduction of Byzantine-inspired jewelry, combo that looked jaw-dropping and that will surely manage to conquer the hearts of fashion icons on an international level.

Most of the lovely designs featured in the Dolce and Gabbana fall 2020 collection were displayed in achromatic tones such as black, white and gray, however warm and sizzling tones or cardinal red and gold, shades that scream seductiveness were also quite abundantly featured in the collection, probably to take out some of the somberness brought by dark tones. Make sure you browse through the collection from start to finish before you make up your mind whether this is a collection that raises up to your standards!

The designer duo’s take on lavish details is specific to the Italian aesthetics, and we can observe opulent, over-the-top embellishments, busy prints and loud color combos also in the vintage-inspired Antonio Marras fall 2020 collection, the extravagant Gucci fall 2020 collection or the exotic Just Cavalli fall 2020 collection.
