What does the alkaline meal diet plan do to your body?

The alkaline meal diet plan is hot news, but what does it do to your body and how can you get some of this alkaline action?
What happens when we are ‘acidic’?
We consume so many acidic forming foods and chemicals that our bodies are in a constant state of homeostasis – trying to maintain the delicate balance of pH at 7.365. The body will do whatever it can to try to maintain this level. It is this maintenance of pH that causes stress on the body – the acidity has to be neutralised somehow and we can cope with a certain amount of it, but an overload can cause problems like inflammatory diseases, eg. rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, candida overgrowth, IBS as well as general sluggishness. Lack of energy is a common reason people start on an alkaline diet.
How do we go ‘alkaline’?
– Find a resource you trust. I use Ross Bridgeford as my go-to alkaline diet guy – he is a wealth of knowledge and offers free alkaline food charts, videos, courses and books.
– Understand why you are doing this and decide if it’s the best eating plan for you. How will you manage it when you are working/at home/craving foods etc?
– Get an authorised list of foods and print or copy them – put them up in your kitchen or make a folder of the foods so you don’t have to rely on your memory
– Enjoy the process and don’t be afraid to experiment with recipes. And don’t give up if you skip an alkaline meal or day!
What happens to the body when we go ‘alkaline’?
People who go alkaline report decreases in inflammation, increases in health and energy with a sense of having their mojo back.
Alertness – let’s face it; who doesn’t want to feel more alert, able to pack more into our day or simply to be more present in each moment and enjoy the experience? Being alert, positive and mindful is a side effect of going alkaline. Some people think it’s due to the high levels of enzymes present in alkaline foods and the healthy bacteria that these promote.
Inflammation – diseases of the modern world are nearly all caused by inflammation in our tissues. Over-acidity leaches alkaline minerals. The immune system is in a state of hyper sensitivity and this causes the body to over-react (autoimmune diseases) to chemicals, aging us faster and placing excess stress on the body, so it cannot metabolise. toxins.
Yeasts and Fungus – yeasts and fungus thrive on an acidic environment and they feed on sugar. Sugar is acidic and it feeds on yeasts and fungus! Yeasts and fungus in the digestive system are bad news and send all sorts of wrong signals to our gut and our brain. They tell us we are hungry when we aren’t, that we need sugar or processed foods and this compounds the very symptoms they are causing; digestive symptoms.
Weight – fat cells carry toxins and are the toxin storage method in the body. To avoid sickness, our body creates more fat cells to store toxins. When we go alkaline, the body realises there is more capacity for the body to be able to clear these toxins, so the fat cells can release them into the bloodstream, where they can be excreted through the kidneys, the lungs, the liver and the skin. Less fat cells = less excess weight!
It is important to remember that while there are loads of successful weight loss stories out there on the alkaline diet, it has come up against some criticism; mainly for the reason it doesn’t actually alter pH (as explained earlier). Overall, increasing your level of vegetable, seed and nut intake is going to do nothing but transform your skin and digestion, level of well being and most likely reduce your measurements too.
