What would it take for Santa to lose weight?
Santa Claus delivers toys to the millions of kids around the world every year on Christmas Eve. His job is so crazy around this time of year, it’s no wonder he is so fat! Can you blame him? Can you imagine working non stop for weeks to produce such a large quantity of toys, and then also have to personally deliver each and every one of them? On top of that every house leaves him a glass of milk and cookies to eat. This year Santa decided – no more! He decided to make some changes in his life, so that he can be healthier in order to continue to keep the children of the world happy during Christmas time!
Santa’s weight loss plan – he decided to cut down on his caloric intake
Instead of his normal 3000 calories per day, he would only eat 1500 calories per day. He knew this would lead him to the body transformation he was looking for. Combined with the extra workouts he incorporated into his routine, he would have to be lean and mean by Christmas time. In fact, he estimated he’d be able to deliver the toys in half the time.
After a few weeks of his new routine Santa hadn’t lost any weight and his energy was down. He decided to drop his caloric intake another 500 calories. A few weeks past and more of the same, he had actually gained weight! How could this be?
The mainstream philosophy for weight loss is black and white
Eat less and exercise more and lose weight. Plain and simple, we are fat, because we are gluttons. I’m here to tell you that Santa did everything the way he was supposed to, except the system doesn’t work and it never has!
Number one, calories are a measure of heat. Our bodies don’t actually burn calories like a steam engine. Our bodies are chemical factories, where complex reactions are occurring to produce energy, but also to govern other functions of the body like detoxification, digestion, breathing, etc. Therefore, it’s not about how much you throw into the fire, i’ts about what chemical reactions are occurring and which ones aren’t. In short, its about WHAT you eat not how much.
Theoretically, if it was all about caloric intake, any given person could lose weight on 1000 calories of chocolate everyday and be ok. We all know that is not true even a little bit. It’s about the right kinds of nutrients which include fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Not everything you eat is used for energy. That is important to understand. Fat is important for energy, but its also important in the brain for proper synapse firing. Eating lots of fat doesn’t mean it all gets stored away or clogs your arteries. Fat goes through digestion just like protein and carbohydrates. It does not float through your system unchanged, so fat clogging your arteries makes no sense at all!
Eating healthy means eating real food
Avoiding anything in packages and looking for quality organic meats and vegetables. When was the last time you ate too much salad? You can’t overeat when it’s the right foods.
So, what did we learn from Santa Claus’ weight loss plan? Obsess about health and not about weight!
