Plastic surgery was first available in Hollywood before it really reached the masses, but that doesn’t mean that all celebrities are willing to get nips and tucks to feel good about themselves. Some actresses and singers have become militants for a plastic surgery free look and they really show what aging gracefully is about.
Discover the most vocal celebrities who refuse to get plastic surgery and have even passed on Botox and other, less invasive cosmetic procedures, opting instead to rely on their genes and skincare routine to look good while still accepting the signs of aging.
Cate Blanchett
Winner of two Academy Awards, Australian actress Cate Blanchett isn’t interested in looking younger since plastic surgery has a greater price than just money. “You look at a man or a woman in their 50s and all I see when they’ve brushed it all away with surgery is self-obsession and fear – and that’s not particularly attractive,” she told the Herald Sun.
Julianne Moore
Embracing her wrinkles, Julianne Moore is 53, but she doesn’t seem interested in leaving the ranks of celebrities who refuse to get plastic surgery. “I don’t believe it makes people look better. I think it just makes them look like they had something done to their face, and I don’t think we find that instinctually appealing,” she explained to The Daily Mail.
Kate Winslet
Declaring herself a member of the “British Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League”, a joke she shares with fellow actresses Rachel Weisz and Emma Thompson, Winslet is actually very serious staying one of the celebrities who refuse to get plastic surgery. “It goes against my morals, the way my parents brought me up, and what I consider to be natural beauty. I’m an actress. I don’t want to freeze the expression of my face,” Winslet told the Telegraph.
Isabella Rosellini
Actress and model Isabella Rosellini is also on the list of celebrities who refuse to get plastic surgery, and she refuses to fight against a lost cause with medical procedures. “I age, it just happens; it’s like, tell a baby don’t grow (but) it will grow. Nothing I can do to stop the progress,” she told the Huffington Post.
Sheryl Crow
After almost giving in and getting Botox after she received a gift card for the cosmetic treatment, Sheryl Crow has decided to say no to any procedure that would freeze her eyebrows and forehead for the sake of a youthful look. The singer told Wendy Williams she’s glad she didn’t go through with it.
Meryl Streep
The most nominated actress in the history of the Academy Awards (18 nominations and 3 wins), Meryl Streep is a lot more diplomatic when it comes to other people’s opinions about staying young, but she’s still one of the celebrities who refuse to get plastic surgery. “To each his own. I really understand the chagrin that accompanies aging, especially for a woman, but I think people look funny when they freeze their faces. (…) I pick up on the part that doesn’t move on a face. I’m immediately drawn to it and that is the opposite of what you’re intending. You pull focus to the area that’s been worked on,” she explained.
Jodie Foster
In an interview with More Magazine, Jodie Foster made her stance on plastic surgery very clear, explaining that she’d rather “hear somebody say ‘Wow, that girl has a bad nose’ than ‘Wow, that girl has a bad nose job.’”
Sigourney Weaver
She’s one of the celebrities who refuse to get plastic surgery, but Sigourney Weaver is also not a fan of Botox, claiming it leads to an “unreal” look. “It’s something fans and audiences pick up on instantly. Actors’ faces should actually be able to move,” she explained, quoted by Showbiz Spy.
Julia Roberts
Trying Botox once was enough for Julia Roberts to say no to it, along with plastic surgery to look younger. “It’s unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don’t even give themselves a chance to see what they’ll look like as older persons. I want my kids to know when I’m pissed, when I’m happy, and when I’m confounded. Your face tells a story… and it shouldn’t be a story about your drive to the doctor’s office,” Julia Roberts told Elle magazine.
Salma Hayek
One of the big celebrities who refuse to get plastic surgery, Salma Hayek has also avoided any peels or injections on her face. In an interview with Allure magazine, the Mexican-born actress claimed plastic surgery is “like the uniform of a generation. And it’s not necessarily beautiful. It’s not wrinkled-looking, but it’s not beautiful.”
