The Damien Hirst for Alexander McQueen scarves collection features 30 unique and limited edition scarves. The luxury label is celebrating 10 years since the iconic skull scarf was launched during the spring/summer 2020 fashion show which quickly became one of the label’s most recognizable assets. English artist, Damien Hirst, has collaborated with a number of high end labels before, but stated the partnership was “something we should have done years ago. I love McQueen and think this collaboration is a marriage made in heaven.”
For the new limited edition Alexander McQueen scarves collection, the artist took inspiration from Dante’s Inferno and reworked and adapted from Hirst’s Entomology series. Thus, it is not surprising that the new line features motifs like butterflies, bugs, spiders, scarabs and other insects along with kaleidoscopic geometric shapes. One thing’s for sure: these eclectic scarves have the power of turning the simplest outfits into veritable showstoppers! The label’s new anniversary collection was captured in a short film made by fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo.
The new Damien Hirst x Alexander McQueen scarves are edgy yet refined, two notions that are rarely seen together. Though skulls are usually associated with macabre elements, the campaign for the new line presents the new options in a romantic light. Blending seemingly contradictory notions is something the label specializes in and the new line definitely managed to prove it.
The special edition Alexander McQueen scarves will be available in chiffon, pongé, twill and cashmere starting with November 15 at Alexander McQueen stores worldwide and at alexandermcqueen.com. These anniversary scarves have a price range between $515 and $1175. Believe it or not, this is one of Hirst’s affordable projects. The artist is also responsible for the creation of the $39K backpack for The Row, which reportedly sold out.
