Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Wintour, Sofia Coppola, Alexa Chung, Elle Fanning, Clémence Poésy, Elizabeth Olsen, Daphne Guinness, Vanessa Paradis, Charlotte Casiraghi, Georgia May Jagger, Theophilus London, Alexander Wang, Kanye West, Freja Beha Erichsen, Laetitia Casta, Claudia Schiffer. What do you think they all have in common? Yes, they are all famous and beautiful, but the thing that bounds them mostly is the legendary Chanel jacket and they are all featured in Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld’s upcoming book ‘The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited.’
The book, set to be released in August, includes 113 photographs of celebrities, editors, models, It-girls wearing the label’s iconic cropped tweed which first came out in 1954. The book will be sold for $98, upon release. In an interview with Gotham Magazine, Lagerfeld said that “every designer dreams of designing the Chanel jacket. It’s up there with jeans or the T-shirt; it’s gender-neutral. That is to say, it can be womenswear or menswear.” He then added that, “eternal can only last if it stays up-to-date [and for] this reason, the jacket is eternal.”

The photographs in ‘The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited’ can be seen in an exhibition with the same name held by Chanel in New York City. The traveling photography exhibit will stop in New York City for one week, beginning June 8 and will be open each day from 12pm to 7pm. Lots of celebrities, designers and models attended the opening party of the exhibit that took place Wednesday night, on June 6, in SoHo. Young designer Alexander Wang, who is also featured in the book, said that, “Carine’s one of the most down-to-earth people and Karl’s so easygoing too. I was in and out of there. It was so pleasant.”
Carine Roitfeld, present at the party, was wearing an interpretation of the jacket that she created from a skirt and explained a little bit her ideas behind the styling process of the portraits lensed by Lagerfeld. “You know Karl, you have to surprise him” she said. “I was very surprised to see Karl with the little kids because you don’t imagine Karl with a little girl or little boy and he was so good….He’s very nice and soft with the kids. You don’t imagine that with Karl,” Roitfeld added.
