Have you girls managed to take a look at Loewe’s spring 2020 collection? Well, let us tell you that the line was inspired by Elena Ivanovna Diakonova, better known as Gala Dalí, Salvador’s wife, and it features some seriously stylish leather and suede goodies. “As soon as I started at Loewe, I knew she was a woman I wanted to focus on at some point,” explained Loewe’s creative director Stuart Vevers.
Vevers admits that Spain inspires a lot his designs. This time, he took a trip to Spain, north to Cadaqués at the castle of Gala Dalí. “She drove this enormous Cadillac along these cliff edges; she was known for having a voracious appetite for men; she was very idiosyncratic, outspoken, very bold,” he said. “It got me thinking about how she might be today and it became a clash of these two worlds: her aristocracy and youthful attitudes with these broad Spanish aesthetics.”
The new Loewe spring 2020 collection is a stunning mix of femininity and masculinity packed full with chic, sophisticated pieces. “People are always looking for the next thing. And even though we’re 160-plus years old, we’re new to some people,” Loewe’s creative director Stuart Vevers said. There were pencil skirts, bra tops, leather jackets, shirtdresses, high-waisted pants, floral appliqués, embroideries, and shades of khaki, orange, and white.
Stuart Vevers, who has designed accessories for Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs, has been named creative director at Loewe back in 2020. Speaking about the creative process, the designer told Style Intel that, “I normally go on a trip and then I start researching. It’s an easy way to start because you pick things you like even if you don’t necessarily know why you like them. And then most important is to start drawing – the good old fashion way. Get a pencil and a piece of paper and I draw. I draw for days and days and weeks. And it is really important for me that I still do that. And what happens is that it all comes together with the team. And we bounce ideas around.”
