MFW Spring 2020: Maximalist Collections

We’ve seen plenty of minimalist lines at the Milan Fashion Week spring 2020 edition, however, there are several designers who make a compelling case for bold, maximalist looks as well. The definition of a head-turning ensemble varied from one label to another, however elegance and sultriness were the common denominator. Here are some of the coolest looks that caught our eye:

MFW Spring 2020: Dolce & Gabbana – Sicily Meets Ancient Greece

Designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce don’t need to look to far for creative insights: the beauty of Sicily proves a vast source of inspiration season after season. For spring 2020, the two focused on the region’s glorious past: “It’s a dream of Sicily. Like, you go on holiday to Syracuse or Taormina, and you see the Greek theater, then you come home and dream about it,” Stefano Gabbana explained. MFW Spring 2020: Maximalist Collections

The duo’s unique vision was materialized though Ancient Greece temple motifs, coin patterns, polka dots, chic spring blossoms textural accents and eclectic prints. Ultra feminine lace and silk dresses, high waist skirts, fur trimmed car coats, statement “coin” belts, bold earrings, rhinestone-studded sandals and chic handbags were among the most attention-grabbing creations from the new line. The Moschino spring 2020 show was titled “For Fashion Victims Only” and marked the label’s 30th anniversary. Designer Rossella Jardini, celebrated the event with a playful new line inspired by the eighties Italian movie, “Sotto il Vestito Niente” and Franco Moschino’s original muses: Pat Cleveland, Violetta Sanchez, Amalia and Gisele Zelauy. The good girl/bad girl theme was reflected through a myriad of whimsical creations: pretty frocks, cropped leather jackets, eccentric shopping bag – inspired dresses or a sequined dress with a question mark, being among the show’s most memorable looks. View more from: Moschino spring 2020 collection

MFW Spring 2020: Missoni – Japanese InfluencesMFW Spring 2020: Maximalist Collections

Angela Missoni wasn’t satisfied with a single source of inspiration for her new line. Instead, she thought about the four elements — water, earth, fire, air — and injected chic Oriental influences into her newest creations. A myriad of eclectic motifs attracted attention: volcano prints, seascapes, stripes abstract accents. As for the defining pieces of the new line, chic sarongs, boxy cotton and silk T-shirts, asymmetrical dresses or chic caftan and sari-inspired silhouettes were among the most notable examples. View more from: Missoni spring 2020 collection
