‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’ Cast Covers Redbook Mag June 2020
The heavily promoted ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’ movie set to be launched on May 18 is once again in the spotlight as Redbook magazine brings together the movie’s leading female stars and lets them express their views on…well, motherhood, of course. The perspectives and views are naturally quite varied and the way of handling the challenges that come with the new ‘role’ are quite different as well.
Cameron Diaz, being childless, is well aware of the social pressure women who don’t have life planned out exactly by the common social script have to face. This is why she believes the world is quite biased on the subject: “I’m sure a lot of people would expect that I would have had a child by my age. But it’s not what I’ve wanted out of my life thus far. We still live in a largely chauvinistic world. There’s a box people put themselves in, and when you [live] outside of it, that makes them uncomfortable–they have to look at themselves and question their own choices.”
Jennifer Lopez, on the other hand speaks about how she manages to find time for herself in her hectic life with all her responsibilities: “My sanctuary is my bathtub. That’s really the only time I get to myself. It’s usually around 15 or 20 minutes, but for me, those minutes are like heaven on earth. Sometimes I even say a little prayer while I’m in there. I’m like, ‘Lord, help me get through this day!’”, she stated.
Elizabeth Banks sees the whole subject of being a mother quite optimistic and fairly different from most of popular views concerning the difficulties of motherhood. In fact, she doesn’t even believe there’s a perfect time to become a mom: “I definitely don’t think [you have to wait for] a right time. I mean: Why wait? The Chinese believe that if you have a baby, what you want comes together even better. You just do it, and make it work. I think the thing you always hear – but can’t really feel or believe – is how this little baby really does change your life,” she says. “When you have children, it’s the entire focus of your life, but my capacity for joy has been opened up in a way I never thought possible.”
Aside from the views on the subject of the other actresses, Brooklyn Decker and Anna Kendrick on the subject, the Redbook mag also features the views on parenting of the actors from ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’ and promises the views are quite surprising.
